I. I.e./check existing
scratches
Before
removing scratches on a car, it's a good idea to pay attention to the scratches
first. There are scratches that can still be removed and there are also
scratches that can no longer be removed except by repainting. Below is an
example of berets and scratches on a car
Light Scratches
A light scratch is a
scratch that has little impact on the surface of the paint. Usually this
scratch arises because the surface of the grazed object is also attached to the
grazed car body. Consider the example of light scratches in the image below
Overcoming minor scratches, it is generally enough to use a scratch remover to remove existing scratches, then add polish liquid to gloss the color and enhance the polishing results.
Medium Scratch
Medium scratches are
scratches that impact the surface of the paint but do not make the paint peel
off completely. Nail marks on the body near the door handle or grazing with
bushes and plants on the way are examples of moderate scratches. Consider an example
as shown below.
Overcoming
berets / moderate scratches, generally a fairly strong scratch removal material
is needed such as rubbing compound or heavy duty cleaner which is then
continued by adding a polish with polish liquid to disguise and re-gloss the
color on the car body.
Deep Scratches
Deep scratches are
scratches that make the paint surface on the car peel off. For a body with
plastic material, it will usually appear black plastic. As for the car body
with plate material, it will appear silver / silver like metal.
To
remove berets / deep scratches on the vehicle body, generally, it can only be
done by repainting the scratched body.
From
the identification / check of existing scratches, the way to remove scratches
on the car can only be done if what happens is a light scratch and a moderate
scratch. As for the deep scratches you need to repaint the part.
II. How to remove berets /
scratches on a car
Below
are the steps and how to remove scratches on the car
1.
Prepare the necessary tools and materials
For light scratches and
medium scratches, then we only need a few tools, namely:
- Scratch remover or rubbing compound
- Liquid polish
- Lap plas chamois (kanebo)
- A few sheets of clean dry washcloth
- Glove
- Water to clean if needed
2. Clean scratched areas
from dirt
The next step is to first
clean the scratched parts from dirt and dust. This is important to do so that
dirt and dust do not stick to the scratch remover paste or rubbing compound
because it can aggravate existing scratches.
If
it's just light dust, just wipe it with a clean washcloth, but if there is dirt
on the ground, it's a good idea to wash it first with clean water and dry it
with a chamois (konebo) plas cloth and a dry cloth.
3. Grease rubbing compund
on scratched surfaces
Use gloves to protect your
hands. Then take a scratch remover or rubbing compound to taste. Apply rubbing
compound in a circular motion over the existing scratches using a clean dry
washcloth.
Due
to the nature of this rubbing compund hard, gently carry out polishing. Do not
press too hard because it can make the paint erode faster. Repeat polishing
with rubbing compund on the other scratched parts until the scratches are faint
and gone.
4. Repeat polishing until
the strokes become faint
Polish with rubbing
compound until all existing scratches are faintly visible and disappear. Make
sure all existing scratches have been compound evenly until the scratches
disappear. Then wipe the remaining compund with a dry washcloth until clean.
5. Use polish liquid to
enhance polishing
The last step is to use polish liquid to
clean and gloss the existing polish marks. Rub evenly the polish liquid into
the scratched area. Then wipe it completely with a clean dry cloth.
